Missing mountaineer found dead
A MOUNTAINEER missing overnight in bitter cold and icy conditions was found dead by another climber yesterday afternoon on Ben Nevis’s sister peak.
The search and rescue operation was one of several taking place on Highland mountains yesterday.
Police and mountain rescue team members were hampered by freezing fog after the hillwalker, believed to be Scottish, was reported missing by his wife on Monday night when he failed to rendezvous with her at Spean Bridge, Lochaber. The man, in his 30s, failed to return by 6pm after saying he planned walking the Aonach Mor ridge. Police called out Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and an RAF Lossiemouth helicopter.
