prolific ibrox striker compliments highlanders for having a real go in the first half

Boyd does it yet again, but praises Inverness

Kris Boyd praised Inverness for their dominant first-half display – although the Rangers striker’s double ultimately clinched victory for the visitors.

The prolific Boyd netted twice after the break to take his personal tally to 20 goals already this season as the Ibrox men won comfortably.

Portuguese midfielder Pedro Mendes also scored a spectacular goal as Rangers moved to within five points of SPL leaders Celtic.

Boyd said: “Inverness made it very difficult for us in the first half and it was a credit to them.

“After the disappointment of last week when we lost to Celtic, they maybe thought they could have a go at us and they did.

“We started well but Inverness had a couple of chances and could have scored.

“We went in at half-time, had a chat and knew we needed to do better – we came out and got three goals.

“The message at half-time was: ‘You have got 15 minutes or a few of you are coming off’.

“Pedro’s great strike settled us just after half-time and it opened up the game for us to win quite comfortably.

“I am delighted with the goals I scored but we are five points behind in the league.

“We need to go again and hopefully we can get within touching distance of Celtic.”

Joe Kinnear, the manager of English Premiership side Newcastle United, has stated an interest in Rangers captain Barry Ferguson.

But Boyd said the speculation surrounding his skipper had not affected the Rangers display.

He added: The talk beforehand was to go and win the game against Inverness. We couldn’t let anything distract us.

“We knew it was going to be hard coming here as it always is and they made it hard for us in the first half. I hope Barry does stay because he is a big player for us.

“We know that in this day and in this market everyone has their price and whatever happens will happen.

“I am sure Barry wants to stay here and play his football here – he has left before but he came back.

“He has got himself back to the player he was then and we don’t want to lose him and I am sure that the manager doesn’t want to lose him either.”
