ABERDEENSHIRE skier Jan Kochalski is concerned about his injured right hand as the clock ticks away for selection to the prestige World Cup downhill at Wengen, Switzerland..

The Torphins racer is vying with Glaswegian Dougie Crawford for the Wengen slot.

Kochalski, 22, or Crawford, 21, will get the nod after the Europa Cup events also at Wengen starting tomorrow.

The pair are in contention after the leg injury to Britain’s number one, Edinburgh-based Finlay Mickel, who is sidelined until March.

Kochalski said: “I hurt the knuckle in my right hand in the Nor-Am Cup in Canada before Christmas. It’s fractured and I rested it over Christmas.

“I’ve had a few days ski-ing since I came back to the Continent on New Year’s Day and my hand is still giving me some problems.

“Hopefully, I will forget about that and I’m heading over to Wengen for a training day.”

He admitted the injury has come at the wrong time for the challenge in Switzerland.

Kochalski rubs shoulders with the world’s best and he said: “My ambition is to make the top 10 in the world overall.”
