ex-broch ace back at bristol and chasing his century
Fitting return for Murray as he targets ton

Former Fraserburgh favourite Scott Murray is closing on his 100th goal in professional football, having returned to Bristol City after a six-month loan spell with Cheltenham Town.
The 34-year-old winger, from Mintlaw, has scored 99 goals during his career since leaving the Broch in March 1994 to sign for Aston Villa. He scored 91 of them during two spells with Bristol City, either side of a 12-month stint at Reading.
Scotland B international Murray has been a favourite at Ashton Gate and in season 2002-2003 he netted 26 goals and was voted supporters’ club player of the season.
Murray marked his return to Bristol by coming off the bench against Burnley on December 20.
He said: “The welcome I received from the supporters wearing my number seven shirt will live with me for a long time.
“I really enjoyed my loan at Cheltenham Town as I got a regular game and played all over the place, at right back, right midfield and in attack and the three goals I scored took my tally in professional football to 99.
“It has been said I might go on loan to someone else but I’ve told the manager Gary Johnson I would rather stay here and play for my place and score my 100th goal for Bristol City. I think he is happy with that.”
Murray was cup-tied while with Cheltenham, so was ineligible for City’s FA Cup tie at Portsmouth last weekend. Now that his loan is at an end, he is also unable to play for Cheltenham in their tie against his first full-time professional club, Aston Villa.
Murray added: “I am coaching the under-14s at the Bristol City academy and will be taking my level three coaching badge. I have already been offered a full-time coaching job at our academy for next season when my playing contract is up but I feel that I still have another couple of seasons left.”
