AN INVERNESS guesthouse has been named in the top three best bed and breakfasts in Europe.
Avalon Guest House in Glenurquhart Road was also ranked second in a list of the UK’s top bed and breakfasts in the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice awards. The guesthouse is run by Bradley and Jo Norris, who moved to the Highland capital from East Sussex two years ago. Mr Bradley, 42, was working as a director of a contract cleaning company, and Mrs Bradley, 31, was a building society manager, when they decided to quit the rat race.
Mrs Bradley said: “We are absolutely over the moon. We had hoped to be in the Scotland or UK category, but to be ranked third in Europe is mindblowing.
“Our aim is to put hotel-style accommodation into a bed and breakfast, while providing competitive prices.
“Because it is our business, it is our baby, and it means a lot to us we get it right.”
Reflecting on their move from East Sussex, Mrs Norris said: “We decided we were going to escape because we didn’t want the hassle or stress.” Avalon was one of five Scottish B&Bs to make the top-10 list, including the Pottery House at Dores, which was ranked fifth.
Craigatin House and Courtyard, Pitlochry, was sixth and Ewich House, Crianlarich, was ninth.
