Sichel to try again for new record

Published:

ORKNEY ultra-distance runner William Sichel will make a second attempt at breaking Scotland’s oldest athletic record next month.

The 55-year-old will make the journey to Athens, Greece, set on running for more than 567 miles in a six-day race starting on April 3.

The current record was set by Edinburgh-born George Cameron in New York in 1882.

In his first attempt, Sichel fell just short, covering 532.6 miles in Hamm, Germany last June.

Sichel will use the attempt to raise money for the MacMillan Cancer Support charity.
