PUPILS at an Aberdeen secondary school have unveiled a new mural on a wall prone to vandalism.

Pupils in their fourth year at Northfield Academy created the mural for the wall of the Northfield Swimming Pool to help tackle graffiti on the exterior of the building.

The pupils created the urban wildlife scene along with Aberdeen City Council’s arts development team, which had been approached by the swimming pool’s management for help in addressing the vandalism to the pool building.

Following a successful funding application to the Aberdeen Greenspace Trust, the arts development team and secondary four pupils from Northfield Academy’s XL group started work on the mural earlier this year.

A range of media, including photography, oil pastels, charcoal and ink, were used to create the scene.

It has been placed in the most vandal-prone section of the building.

The rest of the building’s exterior has also repainted following significant graffiti.

The unveiling of the mural at the weekend coincided with the reopening of the nearby Northfield Outdoor Centre, which for the second season will be operated by the Northfield Bowling Association.
