SCOTLAND’S grisly history of war was celebrated in a series of reenactment events at Aviemore Highland Resort yesterday.
Called Aviemore Skirmish: Battle for Aviemore through the Ages, the event featured Viking and Jacobite re-enactors along with groups recreating the mediaeval wars of independence.
The day began with visitors encouraged to look around encampments created by the re-enactors, which featured displays of crafts and skills used during the respective periods.
At midday, the Vikings made their first appearance, giving a display of weapons and battle techniques.
Soon after, a wars of independence Scots army took to the field at the resort and children were urged to utter the famous battle cry “Freedom”.
The climax of the day was the “Battle of Aviemore” as Jacobites, a Redcoat army and the Vikings drew swords in a mass conflict.
