Unusual Loving Hands group raises awareness
Charity knitters make breasts which help expectant and new mothers
Published:
CHARITY knitters are launching two new groups in the north-east.
Members of Loving Hands knit, crochet and sew for a number of different charities – but none as unusual as Boobs for Breast-feeding.
Loving Hands knitters from Stonehaven and Aberdeen make breasts which are used to help teach expectant and new mothers how to breast feed.
Some of the knitted breasts are created with lumps in them to teach women to check for breast cancer.
Margaret Byers, 62, who is behind the Stonehaven group, said: “I had so much wool around the house and needed to do something with it.
“I’m always looking to do things for charity and I found Loving Hands.
“I saw they took the goods to where they needed to go and that to me is better than knitting something and putting it into a charity shop.”
The group also takes on other projects, including making blankets and beds for animal shelters and clothing for the charity Algerian Action.
The next meeting of the Stonehaven group will take place on Friday, May 22, from 1.30pm until 3.30pm at the Invercarron resource centre.
The Aberdeen group will meet at the Balgownie community centre on Friday, June 5, from 1pm until 3pm.
