INTERNATIONAL supermodel Erin O’Connor was in Dundee last night to open this year’s Duncan of Jordanstone College degree show.
Ms O’Connor, one of fashion’s most prominent figures, attended an invitation-only preview of the event at the Vision Building in Greenmarket, which opens to the public on Saturday.
The work of more than 260 graduating students across a range of disciplines including fine art, design, textiles, jewellery, animation and digital imaging will be on display.
Ms O’Connor, 31, who is chairwoman of the British Fashion Council, has also modelled for fashion icons including Christian Dior, Prada, Versace, Georgio Armani and Jean-Paul Gaultier.
She was invited to attend the opening by Dundee University, of which the college is part, due to her role as a trustee of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
The university has been a driving force in the V&A Dundee – Making It Happen project, which aims to attract an outpost of the museum to the city.
During the evening Ms O’Connor was given a tour of the exhibits and viewed a catwalk show of new work by graduate jewellery and textile design students. A university spokesman said: “The invitation came about through our V&A connection as well as our standing as a top-class college of art and design.”
Ms O’Connor said she was eager to see the wealth of creative talent the degree show had to offer.
She said: “I know how important degree shows are to demonstrate the incred- ible creativity that there is, which in turn contri- butes to our country’s economy and a richer life experience.”
The show will run at the Vision Building from Saturday until Saturday, June 6.
