HUNDREDS of people headed to a colourful flower market held under bright blue skies in a Moray village at the weekend.

The annual event, held at the Salmon Green at Burghead, attracted almost 20 traders from a wide area.

Elizabeth Main, chairwoman of the village’s floral committee, said it had been a great day for everybody involved. Visitors to Saturday’s market wandered in summer clothes around stalls selling a huge variety of plants, as well as ceramic pots and wooden tubs.

Some locals had set up stands but other stall-holders had travelled from as far as Loch Ness to take part in the 14th market.

The committee also organised a bouncy castle for youngsters, a raffle and a barbecue.

Mrs Main said she was pleased with how the day had gone.

“It was a lovely day and was very well attended,” she said.

“The traders all seemed to be happy and all the plants were top class.”

Mrs Main added that all the traders would donate part of their takings to the floral committee and said it would then use the cash to pay for hanging baskets, tubs and flowers around the village.

She said the event was very much a community effort and paid tribute to everyone who had given up their time to help out.
