A NORTH-EAST man will join a team boarding an ocean racing yacht bound for the Arctic to raise money for a youth sailing charity.
Peter Brand, 52, of Longacre, Thainstone, near Inverurie, will sail from Wick to the Arctic Circle in Norway and back to Peterhead next month in aid of the Ocean Youth Trust Scotland (OYTS).
He is aiming to raise £5,000, which will go towards the charity’s assisted-berth bursaries.
Mr Brand said OYTS exists to inspire positive change in people aged between 12 and 24 by teaching them teamwork, trust, responsibility, understanding the needs of others, and sailing skills.
He said: “Residential voyages provide a uniquely powerful and extremely effective environment for personal development.

“The funds from the Arctic Challenge will increase the trust's ability to provide financial assistance so that these opportunities are more open to young people from all backgrounds.”
