A POST-MORTEM examination is due to be held today following the death at the weekend of a 22-year-old man in the McDonald’s fast-food outlet in High Street, Inverness.

The unidentified man was found ill in the upstairs men’s toilets shortly before 5pm on Saturday.

Northern Constabulary said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will go to the procurator fiscal.

The ambulance service got a call about a man falling ill at the restaurant. Police and ambulance personnel attended and tried, unsuccessfully, to resuscitate the man.

It is understood he had walked in off the street and headed straight for the toilet.

A police spokesman has appealed for anyone who used the upstairs toilets at McDonald’s between 4.30pm and 5pm on Saturday to call the police in Inverness on 01463 715 555.

The restaurant was closed after the incident but reopened for business yesterday.

Franchise-holder Craig Duncan said: “The staff are pretty devastated.

“There are a lot of hardworking people who work at the restaurant.

“The restaurant has run for 20 years and nothing like this has ever happened before. It’s obviously a bit of a shock for all the staff.”
