SLOVAKIAN international midfielder Maros Klimpl wants a move to Aberdeen.
Klimpl, who spent last season on loan at Motherwell under Dons manager Mark McGhee, has been identified by the new Dons manager as a transfer target if his interest in Well team-mate Stephen Hughes fails to materialise with the former Rangers midfielder considering offers from SPL rivals Hearts and clubs in England.
Klimpl is available on a free from Danish side FC Midtjylland and has urged his former manager to make him an offer. He said: “What I can say right now is Aberdeen would be a great choice for me.
“I made my debut for Motherwell away to Aberdeen. It’s not something I will forget because it was minus one and the wind was freezing.
“But it was a good game, they have good players and great supporters. I love the style of Scottish football and, with Mark McGhee there as well, Aberdeen would be perfect for me. For now, though, I’ll just keep waiting for a phone call.”
The Dons have inquired about Klimpl’s availability, but have not yet followed up their initial interest as McGhee will only be able to sign one of his former players from Fir Park.
Klimpl, who made 23 appearances for the Steelmen and scored once, hopes to continue his career in Scotland next season.
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder, who has played 19 times for his country, said: “I really enjoyed working with Mark at Motherwell. He is an excellent coach and, from the training to playing for him, it was a brilliant experience. I want to stay in Scotland. I love the country and my first choice would definitely be to stay there.
“But I just have to wait and see what happens. It’s difficult for me to say anything because I haven’t had a really serious offer.
“At the moment I don’t know where I will report to for pre-season training next week.
“I’m still under contract in Denmark for one more year, but I have been told by the club I will be allowed to leave so that’s no problem.”
Dons captain Scott Severin, meanwhile, has completed his move to Watford.
