Film stars get a taste of the north-east
Aberdeenshire chef prepares dinner at Edinburgh reception

A NORTH-EAST chef was cooking for the stars – including former James Bond actor Sir Sean Connery – at a reception in Edinburgh last night.
Craig Wilson, who runs Eat on the Green at Udny, was picked for the job by one of his most loyal customers — Alex Salmond.
The reception and dinner, which took place at the first minister’s official residence, Bute House, was held to celebrate the Edinburgh International Film Festival, which began last week.
Actor Alan Cumming, Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd and actress Elaine C. Smith were also on the guest list.
Mr Wilson, 37, opened Eat on the Green just over five years ago, starting the business from scratch.
Since then, he has picked up numerous awards, including the Scottish Chefs Award for Gastro Pub of the Year in 2007.
He said he had given the menu a lot of thought and decided to serve his diners the kind of dishes that go down a treat with his regulars in Aberdeenshire.
“This couldn’t come at a better time of year because we’ve got the best ingredients on our doorstep,” he said.
“It will be a great way to show off the best the north-east has to offer.”
Insch-born Mr Wilson was a finalist on TV cookery challenge Pot Idol, hosted by Lorraine Kelly. His appearance earned him the nickname the Kilted Chef.
