utility player eyes quick passage back to top flight as he signs a new one-year deal at caledonian stadium

Utility man David Proctor has become the latest player to commit to Caley Thistle after signing a new one-year deal.

Proctor, 25, who is in his second spell with the Highlanders, joins Richie Foran, Eric Odhiambo, Roy McBain and Lionel Djebi Zadi, who have all agreed to remain with Inverness following relegation from the SPL.

The former Dundee United and Airdrie player was part of the Caley Thistle squad which gained promotion to the SPL in 2004 in his first stint at the club and he is looking for a quick return to the top flight next season.

He said: “Everybody wants to play at the highest level they can. We need to be challenging at the top end of the First Division and, hopefully, it will just be the one season there.”

Proctor’s signing follows quickly on the news Caley Thistle had secured the services of forward Richie Foran for another 12 months.

The Highlanders faced fierce competition from clubs in the SPL and in England and manager Terry Butcher was thrilled to retain a player who has become a supporters’ favourite since signing in January.

Butcher, who also pledged his future to the club this summer, is determined to maintain the majority of his squad for the push for promotion from the First Division this coming season.

Butcher said: “I'm delighted Richie has decided to commit to the club

“I was concerned as he had other offers but he enjoyed his time at Inverness and we've had various discussions which have ended with him putting pen to paper.

“He gives us the experience and the cutting edge we need up front as we prepare for a big promotion push.

“Maurice Malpas and I have enjoyed working with Richie and having him for the full campaign is an excellent pre-season tonic.”
