Grainger wanted by Saints at left back

ST JOHNSTONE hope to prise Danny Grainger away from Dundee United.
The SPL newcomers made an enquiry for the former Gretna and Brechin defender after manager Derek McInnes identified him as the man to solve his long-standing left-back problem.
Saints have been without a regular left-sided defender since the departure of Goran Stanic to East Fife 12 months ago and spent most of last season with midfielder Liam Craig filling in.
United manager Craig Levein has confirmed their Tayside rivals have been in touch but has yet to receive a firm offer for the 22-year-old.
Grainger signed for United in January last year, exiting Gretna before the club sunk into administration and eventually liquidation.
The Englishman was targeted by Saints at that time but chose to remain in the SPL.
Grainger had a bright start to his career at Tannadice but lost his place in the team to Paul Dixon last season.
“We’ve had a phone call from St Johnstone about Danny,” said Levein.
“But at this stage it’s just an inquiry and there has been no bid so there’s not much else I can say.”
United forward Francisco Sandaza is causing concern ahead of tomorrow’s return to training due to his long-standing groin problem. The former Valencia player reported feeling discomfort in training earlier this week.
