After 17 years at Fraserburgh defender Derek Milne has signed a 12-month contract for Deveronvale.

The 33-year-old, who made his Broch debut and played for the Highland League select against the English FA when he was only 16, said: “My plan was to retire at the end of last season, but then Scott Anderson got in touch and invited me up to pre-season training at Deveronvale.

“I have enjoyed training for the last two weeks, it has been refreshing and I am more than keen to give it a go up there and, hopefully, win a few more medals before I eventually call it a day.

“Deveronvale have a very professional set-up and you can’t help but be impressed by their facilities. I think I needed a fresh start after so many years at Bellslea, but I would like to thank everyone at the Broch for supporting me over the last 17 seasons, I have made loads of friends over that time and I leave with many happy memories.

“Obviously the highlight of my Broch career was winning the Highland League that memorable night at Cove in season 2001/02, but I also won every trophy that we could possibly win during my 17 years at Bellslea.

“I think Deveronvale can provide me with the fresh challenge I feel I need, hopefully, I can play on for at least another couple of seasons and I am very much looking forward to the challenge.”

Delighted Deveronvale co-manager Scott Anderson said: “Derek is a major capture. I played alongside him in defence when I was with Fraserburgh and in the Scotland semi-professional side, while I have played against him many times so I know just how good a player he is.

“He can play anywhere along the backline, he is a professional with a great attitude and he is someone our younger players can look up to.”

Banks o’Dee winger Gordon Carstairs has also joined the club on a two-year deal.
