STONEYWOOD-DYCE captain Elton Willemse believes last weekend’s victory at Poloc was long-overdue reward for their efforts this season. He is hoping his side can continue the momentum against SNCL First Division leaders Stirling County at Peoples Park tomorrow.
The win at Poloc ended Stoneywood-Dyce’s five-match losing streak and hauled the side up to eighth in the table.
Despite results not going for the side promoted last season, Willemse insisted they always had faith things would turn around.
He said: “Last weekend’s win was very important.
“It felt like we were finally getting the rewards for everything we were putting in.
“Although results were going against us I just kept telling the players to keep the faith and to keep doing what they had been doing and it would come.
“It was nice for us to get a break and hopefully we can now kick on and gain some momentum.
“After the game last week I told the players to enjoy that winning feeling and hopefully we have now got a taste for it.”
The Peoples Park side could not be facing a stiffer test tomorrow in Stirling County, who have won six matches in a row and have suffered just one defeat all season.
Willemse admits his side are up against the odds but he is confident they can achieve victory on home soil.
He said: “I do not think there is any doubt that people will see us as underdogs.
“They are having a great season so far and are top of the league on merit.
“They are a strong side but we are always confident at Peoples Park.
“Our target has always been to win all of our home matches and this game is no different.
“We will be without Jan Stander (who is on Scotland duty against Canada at Mannofield this week) but the good thing last weekend was that everyone played their part.
“We have the same group this week and hopefully it will be the same result.”
