FORFARSHIRE professional Kelby Pickering believes the next fortnight will be the defining stage of his club’s season.

Forfar thrashed Arbroath United in last weekend’s Angus derby, with captain Ryan Watson leading the way with an excellent unbeaten 140 to keep the Shire in the promotion hunt in the First Division.

Forfar occupy third place and with the top three teams facing the bottom three clubs this weekend, followed by leaders Stirling County meeting second placed Dunfermline next Saturday, Pickering knows how important the next two games for his club are.

He said: “We are at Penicuik this weekend before we face Stenhousemuir next week and it is a huge couple of games for us.

“Promotion has been the target for us and this will be the defining moment of our season. If we win the next two games we will gain ground on one, if not both clubs, but if we lose, it will be difficult to close the gap.

“We’re looking good at the moment and have been making some good totals.

“We will miss Ryan, who is on Scotland duty, but we should have enough quality in the side to cope.”
