Double gold success for Aberdeen’s Mahady at British masters championship

LAURA Mahady scored a double gold medal success in the British masters track and field championships at Birmingham over the weekend.
The Aberdeen AAC runner set a personal best time of 62.40sec to win the over-50 age group 400 metres then came within a fraction of a second of the championship record when winning the 800m in 2:22.09. Mahady, who set a British 800m record of 2:21.26 for her age group at the Scottish masters championships, is now set for the world championships in Finland next month.
Ben Hukins defeated a field of 257 to win yesterday's Stonehaven half marathon.
The AAC runner broke away after the first mile and went on to win in 1:15:25.
Title-holder Scott Neyedli (Metro Aberdeen) had to settle for second in 1:17:53 while his clubmate Niku Millott finished third in 1:19:13.
Rebecca Johnson (Bellahouston Road Runners) held off a challenge from Pamela Tosh (Aberdeen AAC) to take the women's prize when finishing 18th overall in 1:28:07. Tosh was 48sec behind in second position while Angela Hepburn (Aberdeen AAC) took third spot in 1:36:40.
