Caley Thistle will give playing time to five trialists, including former Norwich City midfielder Robert Eagle, in their friendly with Buckie Thistle at Victoria Park this afternoon.

Eagle, 22, is a left-sided midfielder who made just 10 appearances at Carrow Road in three seasons before being released at the end of last term.

Dutch defender Chris de Wagt will also play some part in the game after having five stitches inserted in his lip after a training ground collision with Richie Foran.

A Dutch right-winger and a Latvian centre back are also expected to play, although Caley Jags manager Terry Butcher would not reveal their identities.

Former Montrose goalkeeper Greg Kelly will also be given another chance to impress after playing the entire second half in the 6-1 win against Clachnacuddin earlier this week.

Butcher said: “Eagle will be up with us for a couple of weeks and he is left-sided midfield player.

“Older players cost a lot more money so we really have to look at younger ones.

“We have a core of players here that have been with us for some time and we are looking at players with a bit of pace.

“Robert certainly comes into that category. Adam Rooney and Dougie Imrie won’t quite make this weekend but neither have serious injuries.”

Butcher has challenged forward Andy Barrowman to continue his early pre-season scoring form against Buckie Thistle today.

The 24-year-old scored a hat-trick as Caley Jags defeated Clach 6-1 at Grant Street Park on Tuesday and Butcher wants him to force his way into the Inverness starting line-up when the season begins. He said: “Andy is looking sharp. He is very hungry and had a good start to last season scoring in the first game at Aberdeen.

“There are positions up front for grabs now that Richie Foran and Eric Odhiambo are going to miss the first game of the season in particular.”

Forward Adam Rooney (knee) and Dougie Imrie (Achilles) are expected to miss this afternoon’s game at Buckie.
