SCOTLAND’S links with the United Arab Emirates were celebrated at an event in Dundee yesterday.

The city’s Al-Maktoum Institute hosted an Emirates Festival Day to highlight cultural, academic and business relationships between Scotland and the Emirates.

Around 80 delegates from organisations including Dundee City Council, the Dubai government, Emirates Airlines, the Middle East Business Club and Highland Spring attended the event.

Institute principal Professor Malory Nye welcomed representatives to the festival, which was held at the Vision building at Seabraes.

He said: “I am delighted that the institute has organised this inaugural Emirates Festival Day.

“The festival has an exhibition on the links between Scotland and the UAE that emphasises the major economic benefits already enjoyed by Scotland.

“It is appropriate that this event will focus on the relationships and opportunities that exist between Dubai and Scotland, building on the mutual interest and understanding that exists between the two countries.

“For many years now the Al-Maktoum Institute has been saying that the interest of Dubai in Scotland through the institute has great potential benefits for Scotland.

“Now is the time to try to ensure this is taken even further and I have no doubt that it will.”
