A WESTHILL woman who lost her mother to cancer is to embark on a gruelling challenge in South America later this year.

Anna Kindness, 26, of Braecroft Avenue, will climb mountains up to 1,500ft high to reach Machu Picchu in Peru to raise money for Cancer Research.

She is no stranger to charity events, having taken part in a number of fundraising activities since her mother died of cancer six years ago.

“I’ve done various events over the years for different cancer charities,” she said. “A couple of years ago I did a fire walk and last year I did a 10,000ft skydive. Each year I’m trying to do something bigger and better.”

Miss Kindness will be trekking with another 33 people, walking the Inca Trail in the Cuzco area of Peru. The expedition, which begins on October 16, will take just under two weeks to complete.

She added: “I’m looking forward to the challenge. I can’t believe it’s come up so quickly.

“If I get through this I would like to do a bigger hike next year for charity – perhaps Mount Kilimanjaro.”

To raise extra funds for charity, Miss Kindness is holding a race night at the Ashvale Restaurant in Great Western Road, Aberdeen, on Saturday. There will also be a raffle, as well as the chance to bid for a pair of boxing gloves signed by Aberdeen boxer Lee McAllister and a football top signed by Aberdeen FC goalkeeper Bertrand Bossu.

Tickets, priced £10 including a meal, are available at the door. The race night will start at 7pm.
