Organisers of a Highland music festival are warning people not to turn up without a ticket after the final few of 12,000 were sold last night.

It is the first time in six years that the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival has sold out its capacity, the last time being in its first year when it was a one-day event and capacity was 2,500.

Also sold out are the 115 tepees that were available in the boutique camping area.

Festival co-promoter Joe Gibbs said: “We have just spoken to a family who are driving up from as far away as Cornwall to the event. We have a lovely supportive audience, many of whom have been coming year on year.

“Nothing is a better endorsement of an event than personal testimonials from loyal fans, and our growing army of those have sustained this event under what could only be termed very trying economic conditions.”

Meanwhile music lovers are being warned about the dangers of illegal drugs and over indulgence in alcohol ahead of the festival, which begins tomorrow.

Highland Drug and Alcohol Action Team co-ordinator Suzy Calder said: “We would urge anyone attending Belladrum not to dabble in drugs, and remind them that if they simply cannot say no then they should at least let a close and reliable friend know what they’ve taken so that if they do need medical help we have a clear picture of what’s going on. We would encourage people to think about what they are drinking and not to overindulge. The message is to enjoy the festival and go home with good memories of the event. Simple tips include drinking water to keep hydrated, eat regularly and wear sunscreen.”
