SUNSHINE and fine weather helped to pull in record crowds at the Black Isle Show yesterday.

Thousands of people poured into the showground at Mannsfield Park, Muir of Ord, for the 172nd year of the big occasion.

Organisers estimated that the attendance was about 27,000. At times around the main ring the crowd was up to six deep with everyone enjoying the entertainment.

Organisers said they used a new car parking system this year which allowed visitors to get into the showground quicker and prevented the delays witnessed in previous years.

One of the most popular events was eccentric farmer Stuart Barnes’s show, featuring racing sheep.

Other highlights included the Mega Minis stunt display team and the cattle livestock parade. There were more than 300 trade stands around the show ground to keep visitors dipping into their wallets.

The event began with a horse show on Wednesday which attracted more than 500 entries.

The event ended last night with a dance where the Anne Dickson Band performed.
