A POTENTIALLY valuable bookmark signed by a famous writer is to go up for auction at Buckie.

The Harry Potter bookmark, autographed by author J K Rowling, arrived at a charity shop in the town as a donation. Now Easton Thain, manager of Blythswood Care Bookshop, plans to hold a silent auction to find the highest bidder for the collector’s item to raise money for the Christian charity.

The public are invited to submit their bids in a sealed envelope at the West Church Street branch or the Elgin branch at Lossie Wynd over the next three weeks, and the winner will be announced at the end of the month.

Mr Thain said he was “absolutely certain” that the signature on the bookmark, which is addressed to a fan, is genuine.

He said he checked out J K Rowling’s signature on websites to ensure its authenticity. He said: “I don’t know how much it is worth. I would guess £50, but I will leave that for others to decide. Whatever we raise it will go to a good cause.”

The shops also regularly have Harry Potter books on sale.
