New Turriff United midfielder Darren McAllister is relishing The Haughs club’s flying start to the season – but he has already set his sights on former club Deveronvale.
The 27-year-old made the move from his hometown club in the summer and cannot wait to pit his wits against the team he has supported since childhood.
He said: “I had hoped for a good start to the season so I am more than pleased that we have managed to take six points from our first three league matches after home wins against Brora Rangers and Rothes last weekend.
“I am also looking forward to playing in the derbies against my hometown team Deveronvale later in the season.
“It will be a pretty weird experience as I have supported Vale since I was a boy and they are the only other senior club I’ve played for so it really will be a new experience for me, but hopefully an enjoyable one.”
McAllister is enjoying the new surroundings and he believes United’s management team of Kris Hunter and Graham McBeath can bring success to the club.
The 27-year-old said: “We have had two wins out of our first three league games so I am certainly enjoying life here at Turriff.
“They are a great bunch of players in the squad, good boys to be around both on the training ground and on match-days so that has obviously helped me settle in well.
“One of the main reasons I decided to come to Turriff was because of their manager Kris Hunter.
“Since I arrived that has proved to be the right decision as he is enjoyable to work with, as is his assistant Graham McBeath who is an excellent foil as he has been around Highland League circles for the last 25 years.
“I have a lot of respect for Graham as well as Kris and they really feed off each other so I think it is going to be a good partnership.”
