Graffiti artists have blessing of Inverness

A STREET in Inverness city centre is being covered in graffiti – but all in the name of art.

Walls in Baron Taylor’s Street have been transformed by graffiti artists as part of a project to celebrate the new look Old Town area of the city, with its fresh flagstones, cobbles and street furniture.

Fresh from exhibiting at the Edinburgh Festival, Highland-based artists Fin Macrae and Al MacInnes – known as DUFI – have been busy spray-painting various walls over the past few days, with several other artists.

Last month, the pair took part in the Rough Cut Nation exhibition in Edinburgh, which attracted more than 1,000 people on its first day, with people queuing out of the venue to get in.

The work is part of Re-imagining The Centre, an event by the Inverness Old Town Arts project which is celebrating the completion of the multimillion-pound Streetscape scheme and the new open spaces created. The six-day event began on Tuesday and will see sculptures, street art, projections and music brought to the city centre by acclaimed artists from around the UK.

The graffiti is expected to be painted over next week, after the event finishes on Sunday.
