HUNTLY Nordic Ski Club enjoyed plenty of success on home soil in the Huntly roller ski championships.

Callum Smith led a Huntly one-two-three in the men’s 7.1km race at the Nordic and Outdoor Centre, beating clubmates Alex Standen and William Newman to the title. Sarah Young made it a double for the hosts when she took the honours in the women’s race.

In the junior event, there was triple success for Aviemore-based Cairngorm Biathlon and Nordic Ski Club.

Calum Irvine won the under-16 boys’ title while Robert Sircus took the under-14 honours for his club, with Lachlan Cowie winning the novice race.

Deborah May won the under-18 girls’ race for the hosts while Katy Homyer won the under-16 title for Highland Nordic.

Edward Fletcher (CBNSC) won the under-12 boys’ title with clubmate Catriona Dudgeon taking the under-14 girls honours. Huntly’s Lynne Gray completed the winners list with victory in the under-12 girls.

Peter Thorn, secretary of Huntly Nordic ski club, said: “Course records were once again set in the senior men’s and women’s races.

“Standards have risen so much that the first 10 men and first nine women were inside the original course records set in 2005.”
