Caley Thistle manager Terry Butcher has warned his players to step up their game or face a heavy defeat in the third round of the League Cup against SPL side Motherwell at Fir Park tonight.
Butcher was scathing in his criticism after Inverness salvaged a draw with a late Jonny Hayes goal at Airdrie on Saturday.
The former Motherwell manager is expected to alter his starting 11 after the Caley Jags poor performance at New Broomfield.
He said: “The players knew themselves they had not played well on Saturday.
“It is about bouncing back and it is a big game and a good game as it is Scottish Premier League opposition in Motherwell.
“It is a bonus game in terms of the next round of the cup, we have had a couple of rounds before this and no one really expects you to win when you go up against SPL opposition.
“The pressure is off and hopefully with the pressure off they can go out and play and play the way we know they can.
“If they play like they did against Airdrie they will get beaten six or seven-nil – there is that fear.
“It will be interesting to see who plays, maybe I will make big changes.
“I said to them at half-time on Saturday it was a pity I did not have eight or nine substitutes as I would have put them on and the eight or nine coming off would have had no complaints.
“You don't become a bad team overnight and we are certainly not a bad team.
“It is just that if we do not approach the game the right way then we will end up not giving a good account of ourselves.”
Inverness forward Richie Foran enjoyed a successful period at Fir Park earlier in his career.
He said: “It is a good game to show the manager and Maurice Malpas that we can put it right and that we can play football.
“I had a great two-and-a-half years at Motherwell and the supporters were magnificent. They are some of the best in the country and I can’t wait to get back there.
“A win in the cup can help us in the league, we need to get on a run and get two or three wins.
“It would really help and then we can take off.
“We have to sort out our attitude first, we are not kids any more and the 11 that the manager is putting out there are very lucky.
“We have to show that we are good enough – at the moment we are not showing it and we have to put it right.”
