Wick’s Allan leaves it late to frustrate Clach

A DRAMATIC injury-time equaliser from David Allan earned Wick Academy a replay against Scottish Cup first-round opponents Clachnacuddin in an entertaining 2-2 draw at Grant Street Park.
Wick were on top in the first half but fell behind to a Steve MacDonald header before Allan levelled eight minutes from the break.
Colin Williamson restored Clach’s lead 14 minutes from the end but, in the fourth minute of injury time, Allan nicked his second of the game.
Clach manager Iain Polworth said: “I’m devastated for the boys. I thought we’d managed to hold out.
“We weren’t at the races in the first half and were lucky to be level at half-time, but when we went 2-1 up we created more chances than Wick and should have killed off the game.”
The Lilywhites took the lead in the 25th minute when MacDonald rose above the Wick defence to head home a Pollock corner.
The visitors were back on level terms in the 37th minute when Steve Cunningham flicked the ball on for Allan who volleyed high into the net from 20 yards.
Clach enjoyed a sustained spell of pressure in the second half and the home side deservedly took the lead in the 76th minute when Williamson got the final touch in a crowded goal-mouth after a short-corner.
Clach looked to have done enough to win the tie but in the fourth minute of injury time Allan got on the end of a Craig Shearer cut back to send a glancing header past Hastie.
Clach’s MacDonald was sent off seconds before after he picked up a second yellow card.
Academy co-manager Ian Munro said: “We controlled the game for long spells. Clach caught us out with two set-plays but we battled right to the end and we are delighted to get a replay.”
