Drew MacNeil expects Saturday’s Premier Division game at Inveraray to be his swansong as Fort William manager because of conflict with club officials.
The man who has steered Fort to a club record three successive Camanachd Cup triumphs said: “The committee don’t want me, so why bother?
“I have yet to be congratulated for winning the Camanachd Cup and the way I’ve been ignored is pretty shocking.
“The old guard were angered when they were outvoted at a committee meeting on my future a couple of months ago and they’ve been ignoring me ever since.
“I’m not willing to carry on the way things are so Inveraray is possibly my last game.
“But the club’s playing future is bright as was shown in Saturday’s 5-0 home win against Bute when I fielded nine players aged 23 and under and they showed up very encouragingly.”
Debutant goalkeeper Kevin Mackay kept a clean sheet after doubles from Gary Innes and Victor Smith plus a Daniel Stewart goal meant Fort moved clear in third place.
In the Premier title race, leaders Newtonmore are frustrated at being idle again, their game at Lochaber being rained off and More have no fixture this weekend.
Pursuers Kingussie took full advantage, beating Inveraray 8-4 at The Dell, and now sit three points behind More with a game in hand and the pair still to meet. Ronald Ross now has 81 goals to his credit this season after slamming six more, including five in the second half as Inveraray cracked after being 2-2 at half time.
Kevin Thain and Ryan Borthwick completed Kingussie’s scoring while Scott Robertson (2), Neil Andrews and Alastair Munro netted for the Argyll men.
Glenuruqhart’s game at Kyles Athletic was also off as the Premier schedule now risks running until late November.
The North Division 1 picture is clearer with Lovat now requiring to win their two final games, at home to bottom duo Inverness and Lochcarron, to cap their return to the top flight.
Kilmallie beat Strathglas by 6-1 margin at Caol to finish their season top on 24 points, passing Skye who are also finished and have 23.
John Stewart hit a hat-trick with a brace for Trevor Jackson and Liam MacDonald completing Kilmallie’s spree with Rupert Williamson hitting a late consolation.
That would have made Kilmallie champions had Lovat lost, but the Kiltarlity men made no mistake with a 6-3 home win against Kinlochshiel.
It was 4-3 with five minutes to go, but late goals from James MacPherson and Jimmy MacKenzie (penalty) eased Lovat worries.
Fraser Gallagher (2), Ray Rennie and Greg Matheson had scored their earlier goals with Paul MacRae (2) and Keith MacRae responding for Shiel. Lochcarron gained their first win of the season when Andrew MacKenzie’s late goal was enough to beat visitors Inverness.
Lochside Rovers won two trophies in one match, clinching the South First Division title by beating neighbours Oban Celtic 5-2 at Mossfield Park in a game which also doubled as the Royal National Mod Cup fixture.
Lewis Cameron (2), Jonathan Will, Dave McCuish and David Lafferty netted for Rovers with Kenny Wotherspoon and Alan Miller scoring for Celts.
Glenurquhart are North Division 2 champions after a 4-3 win at Caberfeidh through a Calum Fraser treble and a late winner from Ewan Brady. Alan Ross, Stuart Krzyzanowski and Ian MacDonald were the home marksmen.
