Jackson tribute will be Halloween Thriller
Festival organisers hope over 100 will take part in town’s zombie dance

HALLOWEEN is set to be a Thriller at Huntly – as zombified residents perform a mass dance to the late King of Pop’s classic song.
The Michael Jackson tribute, which organisers hope will involve more than 100 people, is part of Huntly’s Halloween celebrations for the town’s Hairst festival.
Huntly Hairst festival co-ordinator Catrin Jeans said they have hired a choreographer and a makeup artist to ensure everyone knows the dance and looks the part on the day.
The synchronised zombie dance, made famous by Michael Jackson’s 1982 Thriller music video, will take place in the town’s Square.
Ms Jeans said: “We decided to do a tribute to Michael Jackson.
“The dance has connections to Halloween, so we wanted to combine the two and bring the community together.”
She said anyone is welcome to join in. “It’s for everybody. The dance is quite simple and we are holding drop-in sessions so people can learn it.
“Some mums of children coming to the classes have ended up joining in.”
The dance will take place on November 1.
Events organiser Lindy Young said Huntly Hairst, which is now in its seventh year, is “bigger and better” than ever.
She added: “It is over two weekends this year, so we will be taking in Bonfire Night as well. It’s about Halloween, but also about the harvest and change of seasons.”
The festival, which runs from October 31 to November 8, will also feature a lantern walk from the town to the River Deveron on the final day involving some 200 people.
A drop-in session to teach people how to do the Thriller dance will be held on Monday, October 26, at 7pm in Huntly’s Linden Centre.
Around 1,500 inmates of a Filipino jail shot to fame in 2007 after a video of them performing a synchronised Thriller dance was posted on YouTube.
The video has been viewed 24million times.
