THREE golf clubs in Inverness will unite to stage a new competition next May.

The inaugural City of Inverness 54-hole open will be jointly held by Inverness, Loch Ness and Torvean golf clubs starting on Friday, May 28 and continuing over the weekend.

The event will comprise of one stroke-play round on each course with the winner being the player who hits the lowest aggregate score for the three rounds.

It will start at Inverness Golf Club on the Friday and move to Loch Ness Golf Club and then finish at Torvean on the Sunday.

The event will be the first held by all three clubs and will be open to local golfers as well as those from across Britain and beyond.

Donnie MacDonald, president of Inverness Golf Club, said: “When the idea was first mooted by Torvean I was very keen Inverness golf club should be involved as this is the ideal way for the three clubs to work together and promote a co-ordinated image to our local golfers as well as our visitors from outwith the area. The competition gives us the opportunity to get to the know the other clubs a lot better.”
