National Grid’s plans for the Highlands and islands will be discussed during presentations
Beauly to Denny upgrade will be hot topic at seminar

The proposed Beauly to Denny electricity transmission line upgrade and the National Grid’s plans for the Highlands and islands will be discussed at a seminar to be held by North Scotland Industries Group (NSIG) in Inverness next week.
NSIG’s renewable energy update seminar on Thursday, October 29, will include presentations from Andy Huthwaite, Scottish and Southern Energy’s project manager for the Beauly to Denny upgrade.
Alison Kay, the National Grid’s commercial director for transmissions, will also take to the stage.
Mr Huthwaite’s presentation will include important information on the project and procurement requirements.
The event – the latest in a series of energy updates organised by energy and engineering umbrella organisation NSIG – will be held at Fairways Loch Ness Golf Club, Inverness, and will run from 12.30pm to 3pm.
With more than 100 members from across the north of Scotland and the islands, Invergordon-based NSIG seeks to assist local businesses by exploiting opportunities, raising the profile of local companies, enhancing business prospects and addressing issues that may be of concern.
NSIG chief executive Ian Couper said: “The supply and transmission of electricity, through the Beauly to Denny upgrade and the National Grid, are two of the most important issues facing the energy sector in the Highlands and islands today, in particular the renewable sector.
“The Beauly to Denny proposals have attracted strong views both for and against.
“Our seminar will give people the opportunity to hear, from the companies concerned, the latest on both these issues from their perspective and to ask pertinent questions in what promised to be a lively debate.”
The seminar, which includes lunch, costs £22 per person for NSIG members and £32 for non-members.
