STUDENTS at a north-east school have entered the Guinness World Record books.
Portlethen Academy is now proud holder of the record for the biggest game of dodgeball, after a successful attempt by 120 pupils earlier this year.
The game took place in March but has only now been confirmed as a record by the experts at Guinness.
The challenge was organised by last year’s sixth-year young enterprise group.
Depute rector Jean Skene said: “They wanted to involve the whole school in the challenge. It was something unusual, something which hadn’t been done and an opportunity to get pupils of all ages and houses mixed in.
“I think it’s a credit to the organisation skills of the senior pupils. They had a considerable amount of paperwork to complete and they had to have verifiers here.”
The match, which took about an hour, involved two 60-a-side teams and 40 balls.
Helen Crawford, link teacher for young enterprise, said: “It was a very positive, enjoyable thing for a lot of pupils in the school.
“Enterprise in its widest sense is organising and using your skills to contact people and set up something like this.”
The record was previously held by US rock band Weezer, who organised a 50-a-side game during filming for the video for their single Troublemaker last year.
