TURRIFF United suffered their heaviest defeat since coming into the Highland League.

As well as having two players ordered off and a number of others booked, manager Kris Hunter was forced to substitute captain Barry Massie after a show of indiscipline and immediately after the game Hunter offered his resignation to chairman George Manson only to have it declined.

The former Fraserburgh stalwart was extremely upset by the various events of the afternoon and said: “The buck stops with me, I deserved to be sacked because I pick the team. I don’t think we were as good as amateurs. Defensively we were a mess, the worst since I came here, and possibly the worst in my few years as a manager.

“Individually every one of them was embarrassing for me, for themselves, for the community.

“We started badly, and when my captain cannot be told what to do, he thinks he’s bigger than the club, bigger than me, that’s why he was subbed.”

Deputising

Locos took control early against a side with Rhys Fyfe deputising for injured Ross Buchanan between the sticks, and were two ahead inside the quarter-of-an-hour mark with good finishes from Andrew Bisset and Neil Gauld.

Locos added a third just before the half-hour. The home goalkeeper failed to claim a free kick into the danger area and Craig Ross scored.

Turriff were reduced to 10 men when Leigh Henderson was shown a straight red card on top of being booked in the first half. From the resulting free kick, things were to get worse for the home side as the ball was diverted in by Bruce Cormie.

Substitute Ardevan Djahansovzi latched on to Andy Reid’s long clearance before sweeping home for a fifth and soon after a second yellow card meant defender Cammy Bowden walked as well. In the final 10 minutes defender Steven Park turned goal provider, squaring for Djahansovzi to get his second, and then winger Ritchie Singer hammered home the seventh.

Locos manager Dave Cormie said: “We scored seven, with six different scorers and another clean sheet so everything went right for us.”
