Ross County manager Derek Adams is confident his team will be able to cope with Caley Thistle’s new attacking formation tomorrow when the teams meet at Victoria Park.
County comfortably won the first league game against their Highland rivals at Caledonian Stadium in August but Inverness manager Terry Butcher has recently changed his side with devastating effect.
Adam Rooney, Dougie Imrie, Richie Foran and Dani Sanchez have combined to form a four-strong forward line for Caley Jags, who have scored nine goals in their last two games.
Adams says he will not alter his approach to combat the Inverness attack in the third Highland derby of the season.
He said: “We will not adapt the system we play to cater for Caley Thistle. We will play as we always do and put the onus on the other team. We have the players to do it.
“We have used the system Caley Thistle have put in place ourselves many times in my tenure as manager.
“It is a system that works well if you have the personnel but it can also cause problems as it leaves gaps for the other team to exploit. We are looking to take the game to them and to try to win it.”
County are two points ahead of Caley Thistle in the First Division and Adams views the game as an opportunity to increase the gap.
The Victoria Park manager has been impressed by the attitude of his players in training and believes they will be fully prepared for tomorrow’s game. He said: “We will be looking to hit the 24-point mark and if we win the game we will go five points ahead of Caley Thistle again.
“It is a good game as the teams will not need much motivation from their managers. We have a fantastic dressing-room, we have played exceptionally well this season and we just need to keep it going.
“Training on Monday and Tuesday was exceptional.
“I had to stop training on Tuesday, we usually have a double session, but I decided not to go ahead with it as the first session was so high tempo and I thought the players had worked hard enough.
“I am just trying to keep the players at a peak for Saturday. We will work on the technical aspect of the game but in terms of motivation when Saturday comes I am sure my team will be ready to play.”
