THE team behind the project to create the world’s greatest golf course in the north-east has helped youngsters at the local primary school to kick off their latest football season in style.

Balmedie Primary School football club’s new sponsors were announced yesterday as Trump International Scotland.

The team of 10 to 12-year-olds play in the Aberdeen 11-a-side schools league second division and their village playing field is close to the coastal Menie Estate site where US tycoon Donald Trump has just started work on a £1billion golf resort.

Trump International Scotland executive vice-president Sarah Malone said: “We are delighted to sponsor our neighbouring school kids, and look forward to following the team’s progress throughout the season.

“We also hope to continue to develop links with the primary school on the doorstep of our development.”

Yesterday she watched the P6-7 youngsters turn out for a training session wearing a new blue strip bearing the Trump International Scotland logo. While the golf resort scheme has put Balmedie firmly on the global map, the young footballers gained their 360-pupil school recognition by finishing runners-up last season in Aberdeen Primary Schools Association competition. This week the talented Balmedie youngsters reached the second round of the Willoughby Cup after beating Aberdeen side Walker Road 2-1.

The team is coached by Balmedie parents James Davidson of North Beach Road and Nick Henderson, from Oakview. Mr Davidson said: “We are very grateful to Trump International for their generosity and hope the excitement of having such high-profile new sponsors and fantastic strips will spur the boys on to continued success this season.” Mr Henderson, an accountant, said the remaining cash from the £1,000 Trump International Scotland donation would go towards new equipment.

Manniewe Come off it this is kids you are trying to win points off. The usual advertisement is on the shirt nothing else. But sponsors are published when they are heard of. If this Development had not reached the national press we would have never heard about this sponsorship of the kit. But this is a local business no matter the size of the Town/Village. This is good and much appreciated by the kids. And i say thank you no matter who sponsors them.
