Ellon show their title credentials on road

ELLON showed true grit to prove they have what it takes to get themselves into the promotion race in National League Division 1 with a storming comeback in their game at Linlithgow to win 32-19.
“When we were 19-10 down going into the last quarter I thought we were beaten, but I should have had more faith, as we knuckled down scoring four tries in the space of 10 minutes,” said head coach Clint Parsons.
Ellon were in fact trailing 16-3 at half-time, having only a drop goal from stand off Mark Ryan to show for their efforts, but according to Parsons The Meadows men took aboard all the observations made by the coaching team.
“But even after we pulled back a try from Ryan we conceded another penalty, leaving us a mountain to climb, but we came good. I’ll know to believe in them next time,” said the South African coach.
Tries from full back Neil Douglas, winger Ben Hickie, centre Iain Redmond and winger David Yuill turned the game Ellon’s way, gaining them not only a win, but a vital winning bonus point.
Ryan added two conversions to ensure the home side was denied even a losing bonus point.
The win means the Aberdeenshire side enters the second half of the campaign with a game in hand and nicely placed to hunt down the leading pair Dalziel and Whitecraigs.
The down side for the winners was losing lock Craig Catto with a dislocated elbow.
