Elgin wilt in face of Livi onslaught

CITY BLOW AS CAPTAIN INJURED EARLY ON

Elgin City 1

Livingston 6

ELGIN went into this Division 3 game off the back of a successful trip to Hampden last week where they beat Queen’s Park 3-0 but were dealt a blow in this one as captain Paul Kaczan came off injured early in the first half.

The visitors broke the deadlock with just over a minute played when David Winters picked out Keaghan Jacobs who controlled the pass before rolling the ball beyond the reach of Elgin goalkeeper John Gibson.

With Elgin probing for a leveller, Livingston struck twice within the space of four minutes at the end of the first half to give City a mountain to climb.

They doubled their lead on 39 minutes when Robbie Winters’s cross found brother David in the box and the veteran scored past Gibson.

Two minutes before the break, Livi added a killer third goal when Jacobs was given the time and space to launch a powerful drive into the net from the edge of the box.

Livingston netted their fourth goal of the afternoon just three minutes after the restart.

David Winters headed a Liam Fox cross goalwards and despite Mark Nicolson’s effort to keep the ball out, the linesman judged the ball to have crossed the goal line.

The away side completed their nap hand on 51 minutes with a fine solo effort from David Winters.

It was six for the visitors seven minutes after the hour mark when Gibson could only parry David Sinclair’s 25-yard free kick. The loose ball broke the Jason Talbot, who blasted it into the net.

City scored a consolation goal in 72 minutes when Jason Crooks fed Craig Gunn and City’s leading-scorer to found the net to add to his tally for the season.
