A HIGHLAND League football manager has been treated in hospital after a road accident in the north-east.
Fraserburgh FC boss Charlie Duncan was involved in a two-car collision on Friday evening as he and his family made their way to a function in Oldmeldrum.
The 60-year-old, who had a heart attack last year, said that while the accident had given him a scare, no one was seriously injured.
He said: “I got a bit of whiplash to my neck. My wife is a bit shaken and we obviously got a bit of a shock, but we are fine.”
Three people were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after the accident, which happened on the B9029 Maud to New Deer road at the Artamford Crossroads.
The other casualty was taken by ambulance to Peterhead Hospital.
Police and paramedic crews were called to the scene at about 6.20pm.
Fire crews were also called and helped make the vehicles safe, as well as carrying out first aid on some of the casualties.
A police spokesman said: “We were called to a two-car collision involving a Jaguar and a Peugeot.
“The Jaguar left the road and went into a field. Paramedics attended the scene and took four people to hospital as a precaution.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: “One casualty was taken to Peterhead Hospital, with three others being transferred to ARI.
“All four suffered minor injuries and were walking wounded.”
The accident comes less than a year since Mr Duncan, who was appointed manager at the Bellslea club in 1984, had a heart attack.
The Broch manager collapsed in an Inverness hotel at 8am on St Andrew’s Day, November 30.
After being resuscitated by Mrs Duncan, he was taken to Raigmore Hospital, where he remained for the next eight days until being allowed home to Fraserburgh after an operation to fit a defibrillator.
In the last 24 years, Mr Duncan has brought huge success to Fraserburgh, helping them become champions for only the third time in the club’s history in 2001-02.
He also led the club to victory in the Highland League Cup for the first time in 47 years in 2005-06, Qualifying Cup (North) wins in 1995-96 and 2006-07, as well as five Aberdeenshire Shield wins.
During his football car- eer he played for Buckie Thistle, Inverness Thistle and Peterhead, and had spells in England with Wimbledon, Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
