Residents rally against phone mast plan
Health fears over its proximity to children’s play area

PEOPLE in an Inverness community have vowed to “vigorously” fight plans for a 60ft mobile phone mast next to a scout hut and park.
Telecoms giant O2 wants to erect the mast on land to the north-east of the hut at Kingsmills Road in the Crown area of the city. The proposed location is also close to a play area and skatepark in Walker Park, opposite the Kingsmills Hotel.
Pat Hayden, chairwoman of Crown Community Council, said yesterday: “We will not have this. We will vigorously oppose it. A lot has been spent on the play area at Walker Park to create an excellent space for children. We are not having a mobile phone mast put where there are pregnant women and young children.”
Crown residents have previously fought off a bid to instal telecommunications equipment at the Corriegarth Hotel in Heathmount Road.
The plans by O2 were lodged last week with Highland Council officials and consultation will formally end on November 26.
