THE waiting is almost over for several Aberdeen hairdressers as, on Monday, they will find out if they have won the equivalent of an Oscar in the annual hairdressing awards.

The winners of the British Hairdressing Awards, now in its 25th year, will be revealed at a glittering awards ceremony at Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

The awards celebrate the best in British hairdressing, recognising and rewarding hairdressers throughout the UK within the nine regional categories; six specialist categories, including Newcomer of the Year, Men’s Hairdresser of the Year and Schwarzkopf Professional Colour Technician of the Year, and the coveted British Hairdresser of the Year title.

This year, Andrew Barton, Errol Douglas, Mark Hayes, Akin Konizi, Lisa Shepherd, Angelo Seminara, Phil Smith, Gary Hooker and Michael Young all hope to follow in the footsteps of industry icons Trevor Sorbie, Charles Worthington, Andrew Collinge, Nicky Clarke and John Frieda to win the prestigious title of British Hairdresser of the Year.

This year, the British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame will have two new inductees – hairdressers who have won their category three times, including Tracey Devine, below, from Angels, Aberdeen.

Contenders for the Scottish Hairdresser of the Year award include Janet Stewart, Angels, Aberdeen, and Philip Bell, Ishoka, Aberdeen, while Siobhan McGuire, of Angels, Aberdeen, has been shortlisted for Newcomer of the Year.
