AN IMPRESSIVE second-half showing kept Huntly in third place with their biggest away win against Clachnacuddin.
It was the third time Huntly have netted seven goals this season and assistant manager Jim Cheyne was pleased with his side’s performance. He said: “Clach are a hard-working side and had chances, but Stuart Soane’s goal gave us a lift before half-time.
“Myles Brownhill has shown a great workrate and got his rewards with a well-taken treble. I’m delighted for Colin Robertson on the other wing having come back after some injury problems and both showed their class.”
The Black and Golds got off to a good start when Michael Ewen raced on to a Ross Bremner kick and delivered a cross for Brownhill to finish.
Huntly doubled their lead a minute from the interval. The home defence failed to clear and Soane gathered the ball and ran on to drill low and wide of Neil Hastie.
Three goals in four minutes killed off the game. On 50 minutes, Colin Robertson fired a powerful right-footed effort into the net, Two minutes later, a neat ball from Andrew Fraser fed Ewen, who laid the ball off to Brownhill to fire low into the net.
Former Clach forward Fraser saw an effort saved on 54 minutes before Brownhill followed up on the rebound. His initial effort was blocked but he followed up to claim his first Highland League hat-trick. Robertson added his second when he ran on to a Richie Taylor pass before rounding the goalkeeper to slot home.
Clach got a deserved consolation with a quarter-hour left with Gordon Morrison firing in his 13th goal of the season after Bremner blocked an initial effort.
With seven minutes remaining Huntly completed the rout when Andrzej-Slawomir Kleczkowski ran on to a through ball and evaded the oncoming Hastie to finish.
