Scott joy as Dark Blues do him good turn

Dundee manager Jocky Scott praised his players after they staged a remarkable second-half comeback against Caley Thistle to win the Challenge Cup yesterday.

Scott said: “I can't tell you what I said to the players at half-time but is not about what I did, it is about what the players did.

“In the first half we did not take part in the game. We allowed Inverness to dictate the play. We never got near them, we did not play when we had the ball and we kept giving it away.

“It just shows the character and the ability of the players in the second half.

“All the things they did not do in the first half they did in the second and we ended up winning the cup because of it. We scored three great goals and were different class.

“At half-time I was worried that we would be on the receiving end of a big defeat.

“We came out in the second half and we were level at 2-2 with six minutes gone and I thought we would go on to get a big victory. It was a big enough victory for us."

Scott urged his players to use the cup win as a catalyst to claim the First Division title. He added: “I am delighted for the players and now that they have won something I hope they have a right good taste for it come the end of the season.

“If it doesn't spur the players on then there is something wrong with them. They are enjoying the win but it could have been different, they could have been sitting there moping.

"Hopefully, it will inspire the players and they will want to enjoy themselves more at the end of the season.

“We are a good side if we do the right things – if we get the ball and pass it and move it. If we play as we did in the first half we are not a good side and we recognise that.

“We were fortunate, on other days we might not be."
