Watch the birdie
young learn about feathered friends

YOUNGSTERS from the north-east got the chance to learn about birds during a free event held in Aberdeen yesterday.
Toddlers and their parents got to explore Aberdeen University’s Zoology Museum, where they studied a golden eagle, puffin and the bones of a now-extinct bird called the Moa.
The group also got to handle stuffed birds including owls, a buzzard and a swan during the session. They also got up close to small garden birds after members of the Grampian Ringing Group gave them a demonstration of their work.
The Brilliant Birds session was part of the Natural History Centre’s activities open to two to five-year-olds, which aims to introduce young children to the environment and natural history. During 2009 more than 400 children visited the centre to learn about the world, insects and bogs.
