ELLON coach Clint Parsons reckons The Meadows club is capable of catching the leaders in the National League Division 1 after recording their sixth consecutive league victory against RHC.

Backs David Yuill (2), Craig Davidson and Matt Pearce all scored tries as Ellon defeated the Edinburgh side 27-3 on home turf.

First-placed Dalziel and second-placed Whitecraigs also won but Parsons believes his side can keep the pressure up on promotion contenders.

He said: “We are not over-confident but there is no doubt we can do it. Our aim is to chase down the first two teams in the division. It is going to be difficult but all we can do is concentrate on winning our games. Our focus is to win as many games as we can, especially the three coming up before the Christmas break. We are hoping the two top come a bit unstuck against the other teams in the divisions.”

Ellon were made to work for their victory after an evenly matched first half and Parsons praised his players for keeping their focus after bad weather forced the postponement of the fixture last week.

He said: “It is a pity that we have had a few games called off and we had a bit of a break.

“We were supposed to play RHC last weekend and the players were desperate to play – they certainly proved that they had not slacked off just because they did have a game last weekend. It was quite a tough game, the final score does not really show the true nature of the game.

“Our second-half display was the key to the victory, in the first half we both cancelled each other out.

“In the second half the players executed the game plan we have been trying to put in place all season.”
