ABERDEENSHIRE Cricket Club hope to celebrate their league and cup double-winning season in style by landing further awards this month.
The Premier Division and Scottish Cup winners have been shortlisted for the team-of-the-year honour by Cricket Scotland for next Tuesday’s annual awards evening – to be held at Roxburghe House Hotel in Edinburgh.
The dinner follows another recent engagement for the club, with players, committee members and sponsors all attending a civic reception with Lord Provost Peter Stephen at the at Aberdeen Town House.
Captain Matthew Hays said: “It has been a fantastic year and we’re hopeful we may have a few more wins before the year is out.
“In addition to be shortlisted for the team of the year, our coach Neil MacRae is in the running for the best Scottish all-rounder award in the Premier Division while Chris West and Tyler Buchan are vying for the best bowler title.
“It would be the icing on the cake following our civic reception. It has been a terrific effort from everyone associated with the club and it was fitting we were all able to celebrate together at the Town House.”
The players have had little time to dwell on their success, however, with Hays admitting the hard work has already begun as they bid to defend their titles in 2010.
He said: “We’ve been working on our fitness in the gym and the nets will be coming back out after Christmas for the winter training. We’ve had a great season, but we know everyone will be out to beat us and we’ll have to be prepared.”
